With a little help from Sky, Bolo, Rottytops, Shantae sets out to save the island from what could be total disaster. As she progresses through, the half-genie hero will learn new power-ups that’ll aid in her quest to beat Risky Boots, as well as take care of certain hazards and puzzles. After Mimic’s Steam Engine is stolen by Risky, Shantae must set out to four areas to seek the elemental stones. Like almost every other game in the series, Shantae puts the titular character to task to save Sequin Island from the pirate Risky Boots. But how well as the game aged? The answer, thankfully, is “incredibly well”.
#Shantae gba mode series
For newcomers, it’s a chance to finally see the humble beginnings of a beloved character longtime fans, on the other hand, now have the opportunity to own every game in the series (especially those with a Nintendo Switch). Nearly two decades later, and after years of fans clamoring for it, the original Shantae has returned thanks to Limited Run Games. Years later, while its successors brought the half-genie hero to indie game stardom, the original became a hard-to-find collector’s item, sometimes selling for hundreds on auction sites. Its name: Shantae, developed by WayForward and released by Capcom. What came out was a Metroidvania platformer that was filled with great challenges, a memorable story, and very cute characters. One year into the lifespan of the Game Boy Advance, its predecessor - the Game Boy Color - had one final breath of life to exhale. +1 vote for including Gambatte in Mednafen based on this experience - maybe leave Visual Boy Advance to play GameBoy Advance games.GAME REVIEW | Original "Shantae" Makes Its Magical Return I just thought that I'd cap this thread properly in case anybody finds it from having the same problem as me. I've tried Shantae with more than one emulator only to have the same problem, and I guess that it's notoriously one of the most difficult games to emulate. Responding to this thread months and months later, I actually ~did~ finally try Shantae with Gambatte, and, sure-enough, it runs full-speed just fine. Gambatte-nonmednafened) works well, there's no real need. Sure it would be nice to see Gambatte-mednafen replace VBA-mednafen as the GB/C-emulator-mednafen, but since Gambatte-gambatte (i.e. Have a good 'un.Īdministrator wrote on Fri, 16 April 2010 06:15 To me, the Gameboy sound is even more characteristic than the NES sound.īut anyway, thanks again, both of you. I find the low resolution and four-channel sound to be really charming like a baby NES.

The Gameboy, in my opinion, doesn't seem to have many great games, but I like a lot about the hardware. I might give it a try.Īdmin, thanks for the tip.
#Shantae gba mode code
It's certainly more likely than emulation bugs being fixed in the current GB code though. I had contemplated replacing the GB module with Gambatte(which is supposed to be ultra-accurate), but GB isn't really a "yay I love it" system for me, and I've had other higher-priority things to do. Re: Shantae, Gameboy Color, Runs at Half Speed ĭefinitely give the GB/C emulator Gambatte a try ( ). Thanks again for developing such a kick-ass and easy-to-use emulator, you guys. It's a shame, because it looks like a cute game, but the slow framerate is brutal. With this problem being so prevalent, I don't really expect any Mednafen devs to magically work it out, but I thought that I should at least bring it to someone's attention. Since the game began working at all on emulators, several (apparently), including Mednafen (based on my testing and comparison to many gameplay footage samples), run the game at approximately half of its intended speed.Īt first, I thought that this might have been spec-related slowdown, but none of my other games have this problem, and, as I said, Google searching was quite telling regarding this game's notoriety for stumping emus, and this sort of slowed gameplay is a common symptom. Googling this problem brings up results across several different emulators complaining that Shantae is a notoriously difficult GBC game to emulate. Shantae, Gameboy Color, Runs at Half Speed
